Our SeasonsEarly Season (March-April)
Weather can be cold and there is always a chance of snow. We always have a few days of warm sunny weather to help cure cabin fever. This is one of my favorite times of the year, you can have the stream all to yourself and the fish are hungry after a long winter. The water condition can be cold and some times cloudy. At this time of year we do not need to get to the stream early. We try to time our fishing to the most pleasant time of the day. The bugs and fish like warm sunshine just like you do, so fish when you think the weather is the best and you will have a great day. Late Spring/Early Summer (April-June)
Weather will be cool in the morning and evening warming up as the day moves along. We will have some very warm days in May and June. Some days may be rainy so bring along you rain gear. A tip here is to always have a good rain jacket with you, it can be used in the rain or you can use it as a light jacket, which serves as a good windbreaker. The water will be clear on most days but when we get that spring rainstorm the water will rise and turn off color. Equipment that you will need for this time of year for spring creek fishing will be a 3-4 wt in your favorite length. Tippet sizes will run in the 5x or 6x. The flies for this time of year will start to get smaller in the #16 or smaller. With the warmer day the fish are starting to look up. Hatches are getting in full swing. Be sure to have Caddis, Sulfurs and BWO. Try to fish broken water during the day and fish the flats in the morning and evening. Remember the rain jacket, some of the best "match the hatch" fishing will be on the cool cloudy rainy days. Summer (June- September)
Weather will be hot and sunny. You will always need to be prepared for the sudden thunderstorm. The streams will be low and very clear. The best places to fish will be broken water or the riffles these areas have highly oxygenated water and will be cooler. Look for springs that enter the stream and you will find fish. Warm water fishing equipment used for this time of year is similar to spring and early summer season. With the warmer days of the season, our primary choice is top water flies. |
